HHM

Hispanic Heritage observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover 30 days starting on September 15 and ending on October 15.  The countries of Mexico, Central America, South America and the Islands of the Caribbean are celebrated during this month.  We celebrate the rich and varied histories of Latinos and Hispanos from the European settlements to the present day.  There will be videos on our website that show some of the musical beauty provided by the Hispanic culture.  Thank you for your attention to this information.  More will be shared in the next few weeks.

Mr. Froio

If you're rightfully proud of your Hispanic or Latin roots, then this is a perfect time to let everyone know about it.  Posting a quote for Hispanic Heritage Month on your social media platform of choice will illuminate others about how you feel.

Cesar Chavez shared how he felt about his culture and fellow Hispanic/Americans.  Long embraced as a folk hero by the Latino community, Chavez remains an historic figure among labor organizers, civil rights leaders, and Hispanic empowerment groups.  One of his many memorable phrases is "PRESERVATION OF ONE'S OWN CULTURE DOES NOT REQUIRE CONTEMPT OR DISRESPECT FOR OTHER CULTURES".
